Top Hochul Aide Arrested as Chinese Spy

By Rupert Deedes

A top aide to Governor Kathy Hochul was arrested by the FBI as a Spy for Communist China.

Arrested is Linda Sun, age 40, of Manhasset and her husband Christpher Hu, age 41.

Sun worked as Deputy Chief of Staff to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, resigning this past spring after the FBI raided her $4 million Manhasset home.

According to the 65 page federal indictment, Sun and Hu received millions from Communist China, in exchange for providing help to the People’s Republic and its Communist Party.

Among the "services" Sun provided China was: blocking Taiwan officials from having access to the Governor’s office; eliminating references to Taiwan from state communications; and quashing all meetings between Taiwan officials, Governor Hochul and other New York state leaders.

Sun also blocked state officials from referring to the current Genocide of the Uyghurs, a Turkish ethnic group from western China, one million of whom are locked in Chinese concentration camps, and are being tortured, sterilized, and starved.

Congressman Thomas Suozzi (NY-3) has been a champion of the Uyghurs, recently reviving a bipartisan Caucus in the US House of Representatives to support the Uyghurs.

Sun was charged with ten criminal counts which included visa fraud, money laundering, and other crimes.  Her husband, Chris Hu, 41, a businessman, is charged with money laundering.

The charges against Sun are but the latest chapter in efforts by the Chinese government to spread its secret influence across the United States.

In July, Shujun Wang, 75, of Queens, was convicted in Brooklyn federal court of acting as a spy for the Chinese Communist Party. Last summer, three men were convicted for stalking a family in New Jersey on behalf of the Chinese government. In another case, two men were charged with operating a "secret police station" for China in Manhattan.

Prosecutors say Sun and Hu laundered the millions they received from China to buy their  5-bedroom, $4 million mansion at 73 Saxony Court in Manhasset.  They also purchased a $1.9 million condo in Honolulu; and a 2024 Ferrari.
