Tom Suozzi Running for NY Governor

US Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove) announced this week that he is running for Governor of the State of New York.

"I am running for Governor of NY as a common sense Democrat who gets things done," stated Suozzi. "I have the track record, common sense approach to governing and a bold new vision to get it done. I can do it, because I’ve done it."

Suozzi was elected to the US Congress in 2016. He previously served eight years as Nassau County Executive, and eight years as Mayor of Glen Cove. He is well-known as a moderate Democrat, who builds coalitions across party lines. In the US Congress, he has been a leader of the bi-partisan Problem Solvers Caucus.

In choosing to run for Governor, Suozzi is declining an offer from Eric Adams, the Mayor-elect of New York City, to serve as Deputy Mayor of NYC.

Suozzi will face the current "accidental" Governor, Kathy Hochul, who ran with the disgraced ex-Governor Andrew Cuomo, as his running mate. Cuomo resigned in August after a cover-up of 15,000 nursing home deaths and sex harassment charges from over a dozen women employees, allowing his longtime supporter Hochul to succeed him.

Suozzi will also face two radical-left opponents, the current Attorney General Letitia James (D-Bronx) and the NYC Public Advocate Juumane Williams. Both have been leaders of the radical "socialist" wing of the Democratic Party, and been endorsed by the leftist "Working Families Party."

Suozzi made a huge impression this past year in supporting moderate Democrats Eric Adams for NYC Mayor and Byron Brown for Mayor of Buffalo. Both Adams and Brown won their elections by convincing margins, after facing down radical-Left candidates. Suozzi's support was critical to both of their victories.

With such a strong network of support across New York, Suozzi is given an excellent chance of becoming the leading "moderate" Democratic candidate against whichever of the radical-Left candidates emerges as his leading opponent.
