Sen. Martins Calls for Bipartisan Investigation of Hochul Chinese Spy
By Rupert Deedes
Senator Jack Martins (R-North Hempstead, Oyster Bay) has demanded a bipartisan investigation over the arrest of NY Governor Kathy Hochul's Deputy Chief of Staff as a Spy, for the People's Republic of China and its Communist Party.
Linda Sun of Manhasset was arrested earlier this month and charged with being a Spy and foreign agent of China, and was charged, together with her husband, Christopher Hu, of money laundering and other financial crimes. China funneled over $10 million to Sun and Hu for their spy work.
In the last few days, many other state Senators have joined Martins, demanding a full investigation into the espionage affair, and that a bipartisan committee be established to investigate the matter.
“Ms. Sun’s alleged actions as a secret agent acting in the interests of the People’s Republic of China, while serving as a top aide to Gov. Hochul, raise serious questions regarding the influence of Communist China’s government on this state’s administration,” stated Martins. "We are also deeply concerned that the Chinese Communist Party may have extended its tentacles into the state Legislature by funding local Long Island campaigns.”
Martins noted that Hochul has not announced any plans to investigate her former senior staff member.
Sun was charged with blocking meetings between Hochul and officials from Taiwan - a democratic country that Communist China is threatening to invade and annex - and blocking all support for the Uyghur people of East Turkestan (western China) who are being violently oppressed, jailed and mass-murdered by China.
Sun coordinated with the White House for Hochul, and worked against US Congressman Thomas Suozzi (D-NY3), because he exposed a prior Chinese spy and has advocated for the human rights of the Uyghur people.
“The allegations against former Hochul aide and accused Communist China agent Linda Sun are deeply troubling and Gov. Hochul’s response has been even worse. It amounts to a cover-up,” stated Martins. “She has not called for an investigation and has not accepted any responsibility.”
Sun and her husband Hu were arrested on September 3rd.
“As alleged, while appearing to serve the people of New York as deputy chief of staff within the New York State Executive Chamber, the defendant and her husband actually worked to further the interests of the Chinese government and the CCP,” U.S. Attorney Breon Peace, said on Justice.gov. “The illicit scheme enriched the defendant’s family to the tune of millions of dollars. Our office will act decisively to prosecute those who serve as undisclosed agents of a foreign government.”
Sun helped Chinese government officials travel to the United States by providing them with unauthorized invitation letters from the offices of high-level New York State officers; arranged meetings between Chinese government officials and New York State government officials; blocked meetings of Taiwanese government representatives with New York State officials, and more.
