Oyster Bay to Launch Pickleball Tournaments

By Nolan Cleary
Oyster Bay Supervisor Joe Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola announced the inaugural Pickleball Tournament is set to commence for the first time in 2025.
The Pickleball Tournament will take place throughout the course of two days, and is scheduled to be held this year, starting on Saturday, May 17, and ending on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
The yearly sports event is tailored to anyone hoping to participate, regardless of any prior experience with the sport. The tournament will include double bracketed matches for all participants 18 and older.
“Pickleball has quickly become one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation, and our Town is proud to lead the way in creating opportunities for residents to enjoy this exciting game,” stated Labriola.
“Grab a paddle, find a partner, and get ready for a weekend of fun, fitness, and fierce competition,” added Supervisor Saladino.
This is the first time that the town is hosting a pickleball event. The Town's history with the ever growing sport started back in 2018. At that time, Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board expanded facilities for residents to play pickleball. New facilities at the time included some in Bethpage, Bayville, Massapequa and Oyster Bay.
Since the expansion in 2018, efforts to grow facilities throughout the area have continued.
Last year, the Oyster Bay Town Board expanded pickleball locations to Tappen Beach, Plainview-Old Bethpage, Anchor Park, and Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay. Early plans are currently underway for more courts to be opened in Farmingdale and Massapequa.
Registration is set to open Monday, March 3rd, at 9AM for all residents of Oyster Bay to apply.
