Ken Christensen, Former Councilman, Passes Away

Former Huntington Town Councilman Kenneth Christensen passed away on April 29th. Christensen, who is remembered for his leadership proactive in environmental, housing, and community activities, was 84 years old.

Christensen was prominent figure in establishing the town’s accessory apartment law. He also served as a director for the Economic Development Corporation, and in the Environmental Open Space and Park Fund.

“Ken Christensen was a pillar of our community who will be sorely missed,” stated Town Supervisor Ed Smyth. “He served on the town council and never stopped serving the town,”

“Ken was someone who served the town, often to his own detriment,” added housing coalition vice president Roger Weaving. “We should all strive to be as good a citizen as Ken Christensen.”

“Ken was a father of the Huntington Township Housing Coalition and an author of the accessory apartment law. He was instrumental in creating the town law that required an affordable housing set-aside component,” noted local housing leader Richard Koubek. “Every person who needed affordable housing his feeling his loss.”

Christensen is survived by his wife Nancy and children Brian, Eric (Lisa), Kerri (Chris) Chiodo, and Kelly (Tim) Madden. He was also the wonderful grandfather to nine grandchildren. Donations can be made to the Kenneth Christensen memorial fund.
