The Town of Huntington will be opening its second summer “spray park” in Manor Field Park in Huntington Station. Kids can get cool on sweltering summer days at the new park.
The grand opening will be held next Friday afternoon at 1PM, and will feature kid’s activities, a ribbon-cutting, and participation by local and state officials. The Park is located at Manor Field Park, on East 5th Street.
The Manor Field Spray Park is 4,950 square feet in area with 2,520 square feet of active play features. The spray park includes basketball, tennis, soccer, football and baseball spray devices, including an oversized baseball-themed bucket, which collects water until it tips over, drenching the entire spray pad around it.
“The children of Huntington Station will now have a first-class spray park in their backyard,” stated Huntington Supervisor Ed Smyth. “In addition, we now have a brand-new playground and turf field that athletes of all ages can enjoy.”
The spray park will be open to Town of Huntington residents for free with photo identification as proof of residency. Non-residents may only enter the spray park if they are accompanied by a resident with photo identification.
The Huntington Town Board approved $750,000 in funding in February, 2020, to build a spray park at Manor Field Park, and received a grant of $189,000 in New York State and Municipal Facilities Capital Program grant funding.
Construction began in 2021, and included the replacement of the synthetic turf field at Manor Field Park; and a new sanitary system to handle the additional septic and water usage the spray park would bring. The old playground at Manor Field Park was demolished in late August 2021 and construction on the new playground was just completed.
