Shye Roberts, a Glen Cove native, placed second on the hit NBC music competition “The Voice” and has won national and local acclaim for her success.
Nassau County rewarded Ms. Roberts for her efforts as she was honored at Glen Cove High School on December 23rd.
Roberts received citations from Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman (R-Long Beach) ) as well as from County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D-Glen Cove) and Glen Cove Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck (R-Glen Cove).
Roberts grew-up in Glen Cove, but moved to Pennsylvania last year due to a family illness. She has kept in touch with her friends and family in Glen Cove.
Prior to “making-it” on the popular show the Voice, Roberts started her musical journey at Glen Cove’s Robert Finley Middle School, where she performed in school musicals.
Blakeman praised Roberts, the young 18 year old phenome, by dedicating the day of December 23rd - naming it “Shye Roberts Day” in Nassau County, celebration of her music achievements.
“She has always kept in contact with her Nassau County roots and the people here who help make her the great success that she’s been,” stated Blakeman.
“Aside from being such a fabulous singing talent, Shye is humble, kind, one of the sweetest people you will ever get to know,” added Mayor Panzenbeck, who first met Roberts in 2021, when Shye she performed the national anthem at Pam Panzenbeck’s inauguration as Glen Cove Mayor.
“Growing up in Glen Cove—growing up in Nassau County in general—is probably one of the biggest factors of why I felt like I could do it,” added Shye. “It was such a safe community; it was such a strong community.”
