Three people were rushed to the hospital after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Manorhaven in late May. The fire began on a Saturday at around 8PM, at Linwood Road North.
All three victims are expected to recover. Firefighters from multiple different departments attempted to put out the flames.
Seven fire departments in the local area responded to the calls, including 120 firefighters from The Port Washington Fire Department, Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company, Roslyn Highlands Volunteer Fire Co. and Williston Park Fire Department.
All the departments were under the command of 1st Assistant Chief Donald Reese.
Assistant Chief Fire Marshal James Hickman said the second floor of the apartment collapsed from the flames. “Between the collapse and the accumulation of things inside, the fire department had quite the battle on their hands,” Hickman said.
Hickman also said an elderly woman managed to get out with the assistance of her son.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently ongoing.
