Three Victims Dead in Bayville Fires
On Wednesday, November 13th, at 3:18 PM in Bayville, the Bayville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 128 Bayville Avenue. The Bayville Fire Department extinguished the flames with the help of five other fire departments. Upon investigation, the body of Frederick Derenthal III was found deceased within the home. No further injuries due to fire were reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Homicide Squad, Second Squad, Arson Bomb Squad and Nassau County Fire Marshall responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
Frederick Derenthal III was the beloved son of Frederick Jr. and Vicki Derenthal, father of four; Frederick IV, Kaitlyn, Justin, and Samantha, and grandfather of Jayce Hildebrand. He proudly served the New York City Police Department, United States Army, and United States Army Reserve.
A sad up-date on the fire that occured on November 11th, also in Bayville. Dr. Walter Baron, 96, who was transported to the hospital at the scene of the fire, succumbed to his injuries. He passed away on November 14th. His wife Sonia Baron died at the scene.
In the fatal November, 2018 fire on Centre Island that killed resident James Coppola, the police arrested Jennifer Gross, 54, of Long Beach, for killing Gross, and setting fire to his Centre Island home. On Thursday, November 14th Gross pleaded “not guilty” in Nassau County Court. She faces seven charges, including two counts of second-degree murder, burglary and robbery in the killing.
