Nassau County Legislature (District 16) - Delia DeRiggi-Whitton

The Nassau County Legislature has played an important role as a counterbalance to the often incompetent administration of Nassau County Executive Laura Curran (D-Baldwin). When Curren tried to rush through an error-filled "computer-generated" county-wide property tax re-assessment - that would have increased some homeowners property taxes by over 70% - the Legislature said "No" - and sent Curren back to the drawing board.

Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, a Democrat who represents the 16th District (Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Roslyn Harbor, Port Washington) has played an important role as an independent voice. She has worked with the Republican majority in the Legislature, including against Curren's botched property tax re-assessment.

DeRiggi-Whitton is the daughter of longtime Judge Donald De-Riggi. She has been a leader on senior citizen issues, protecting the environment, and expanding youth services in her district.
