The Suffolk County Sheriff arrested a fugitive felon from Florida who has been "on the lam" for the last 14 years, and was hiding-out in Asharokan village in Northport.
William Segar, age 56, faces multiple felony charges in Monroe County, Florida, including: battery on a law enforcement officer, felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony resisting arrest with violence, domestic battery, felony battery, felony damage property-criminal mischief.
The Sheriff’s office said they were reviewing outstanding warrants and found the Florida warrant. Then they tracked the subject down to an address in Asharokan, in Northport, where he was arrested on Friday. Segar was taken into custody without incident, and will be extradited to Florida.
The Sheriff congratulated the investigators, stating “The suspect thought he could avoid authorities in Florida by living his life ‘under the radar’ in Suffolk County. Our investigators tracked him down and he will be extradited to Florida to face justice after 14 years on the run.”
